Devin Enters Its Next Phase

We have some exciting news to share! Over the Christmas period, Devin secured substantial funding and has officially entered the next phase of our journey. This is a huge milestone for us, and we want to share what it means for our mission—and for you, our users.

This moment marks a major transition for our company. We’re moving from a small but focused founder-led effort, with our first paying customers (thank you for your support), to a new phase where we have the resources to drive technical innovation for the years ahead.

The Mission Stays the Same

Devin began as a master’s thesis project back in 2021. The first beta was an academic exploration into a simple yet powerful question: How could modern development practices be introduced into a software ecosystem where they’d never truly existed?

While almost everything has changed since then—our architecture, our scale, our vision—the core mission is still the same: bringing modern DevOps and development workflows to the ever-improving database Swiss army knife, Claris FileMaker.

For those unfamiliar, Claris FileMaker is one of Apple’s more quietly influential platforms. It is an all-in-one low-code platform that bundles the database, logic engine, and UI layer into a single proprietary stack. It functions simultaneously as the backend, frontend, and middleware, providing built-in web publishing and REST API capabilities out of the box. It’s trusted by tens of thousands of companies worldwide, including major corporations, banks, airports, and hospitals. But despite its massive real-world importance, the platform has a fundamental technical limitation: entire applications—including database schema, business logic, UI, and permissions—are all stored within a single file, using a proprietary file format.

As a result, many of the workflows modern software teams take for granted simply don’t exist:

  • No version control
  • No diffs to compare changes
  • No branching or code merging
  • No CI/CD for automated deployments

With Devin, we changed that. We introduced essential tools for FileMaker developers around the world. But there’s more to do—which is why we pursued funding: to make Devin easier to use and to address more of the DevOps challenges the professional FileMaker community faces.

These aren’t small issues. Talented FileMaker teams are often forced to edit applications directly in a live production environment—not because they want to, but because they have no other choice. It works, but it’s high-stakes, and it’s a challenge we’ve been obsessed with solving from day one.

Our mission is the same—and with new funding, we can improve Devin, making it even more accessible and versatile.

A New Chapter: Investing in the Future

This funding marks the start of an exciting new chapter. Our focus is on making Devin easier to adopt and more adaptable to diverse workflows while ensuring it scales for the future—ultimately moving the Claris FileMaker ecosystem into a new era of professional development.

This investment lets us:

  • Expand our engineering team: We’re hiring talented developers in Copenhagen to help tackle complex challenges.
  • Rebuild our core technology: We’re redesigning Devin from the ground up to make the onboarding process seamless and intuitive.
  • Commit to the long-term: Our ambition is to stay at the forefront of professional FileMaker development, grounded in real-world needs and a vision for what this community can achieve.

For our existing customers and the FileMaker community, this means we now have the foundation to deliver on our original promise. For talented developers in Copenhagen looking for a unique challenge, it means an opportunity to take part in building something meaningful and needed for a niche Apple ecosystem that is surprisingly important to the world.

We're incredibly grateful for the trust from our customers, partners, and investors—and we're excited to pursue our long-held vision, evolving alongside the future of the Claris platform. This is just the beginning!
